Riverside's thought-provoking, free lecture series in Williamsburg at Riverside Doctors' Hospital Williamsburg. In 2016, we're focusing on active living through a FREE series of health-related community lectures presented by our expert medical staff at Riverside Doctors' Hospital Williamsburg. Each lecture is presented in the main conference room at Riverside Doctors' Hospital Williamsburg and will be followed by a question and answer period.

That's A Fact: The meeting on Wednesday, May 25, is on the benefits of Pet Therapy. Jane Ruehrwein and Kiy, the service dog, will join us to demonstrate how service dogs may be able to make life easier for people with PD.
A valuable resource for people with Parkinson's, their families and caregivers

This month's meeting is one of the most popular gatherings of the year . . . the Annual Summer Potluck Dinner on July 27. Riverside will provide chicken, drinks and paper products. All you have to do is show up with your favorite dish. Most importantly, the Potluck provides a great opportunity to spend some quality time with those who are also dealing with PD. Don't miss it!

In other news, the Parkinson's Disease Foundation is piloting a Self-Efficacy Learning Forum at eight sites around the county and Richmond, Virginia, is one of those sites. This course is for newly diagnosed persons with PD, starts in September and will meet for two hours, once a month for nine months. And there is no cost to attend. Click here for more information.

MS Support meets August 23, 2016. Due to scheduling details, there will not be a July meeting of our MS Support Group. So be sure to join us on Tuesday, August 23 when Dr. Kermit Lloyd will join us to talk about New Emerging Therapies such a medications and stem cell treatments.  - That's a Fact: There are 16 therapies specifically approved for treating and managing MS, and more potential MS therapies in development today than at any other time in history. Support and learning for people with MS, caregivers and families

In addition to hearing from Dr. Lloyd, it's a good opportunity to share your story, with all its achievements, challenges, hopes and frustrations with individuals who understand the challenges of managing MS. Those who have lived with MS for a while can be a big help to newly diagnosed individuals by contributing something you know, or some coping strategy you use, that can make a significant difference in someone else's life.

The First Steps Newsletter is 10 months of very helpful information that will guide you through pregnancy and childbirth with tips, thoughts and reminders that this is one of life's most incredible journeys.
