That's A Fact: A yearly wellness visit is a great way to help you stay healthy. In 2015, lectures will be the last Wednesday of the month in February, April, June, August and October.

Don't miss the first lecture of 2015 and the opportunity to learn more about the annual wellness visit with your doctor and how it can help you better manage your health, from board-certified internal medicine physician, Megan McGavern, D.O., who will discuss a range of informative topics including:
  • Identifying potential health problems before they become serious
  • Your role in managing your health
  • The value of a personalized health plan
  • The wellness visit and Medicare - who's eligible and what's covered?
The discussion is free, the coffee is free and it's a great opportunity to learn more about maintaining your health and quality of life. And be sure to take advantage of a free blood pressure screening. For more information, call 757-875-7880.

Parkinson's Support meets Wednesday, February 25 @ 5:30 p.m. - That's A Fact: It is most beneficial to
start an Lee Silverman
Voice Treatment (LSVT)
program early in the
diagnosis period and
before experiencing a
communication
problem. A valuable resource for people with Parkinson's, their families and caregivers

Parkinson's disease can give you a new perspective on life. Share it. Be part of the Peninsula Parkinson's Support Group and come together with people who understand the challenges of managing PD as a patient, a family member or a caregiver. Remember that something you know or some coping strategy you use may make a difference in someone else's life. And something they're doing may offer new ideas and a different approach for you.

This month, speech language pathologist Julie Scott, MS, CCC SLP, and occupational therapist Jessica Sheffield, OTR/L, will provide an update on "BIG and LOUD." BIG and LOUD are both Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) programs. The BIG program works to improve strength, balance and amplitude of movement, making individuals safer and more independent when they walk and perform daily living activities. The LOUD program works to improve strength and endurance for improved volume with communication, making it easier to be heard and understood.

The February meeting is an opportunity this year to spend some productive time with people who understand firsthand what you're experiencing.
