That's A Fact: A yearly wellness visit is a great way to help you stay healthy. We ran into a snowstorm the last time Dr. McGavern was scheduled for this talk, but spring has finally arrived. So don't miss this opportunity to learn more about the annual wellness visit with your doctor and how it can help you better manage your health, from board-certified, internal medicine physician, Megan McGavern, D.O., who will discuss a range of informative topics including:
  • Identifying potential health problems before they become serious
  • Your role in managing your health
  • The value of a personalized health plan
  • The wellness visit and Medicare - who's eligible and what's covered?

The Doctor is In, Riverside's popular lecture series in Newport News, is back with informative discussions on a wide range of health topics for people of all ages. In 2015, lectures will be the last Wednesday of the month in February, April, June, August and October. The February lecture featured Dr. Megan McGavern and a talk on "A Wellness Visit with Your Doctor: The Foundation of Better Health." The Doctor Is In at Riverside Medical Office Building in Newport News

The Doctor Is In adds a new Focus on Women Series in Newport News. These talks will be on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Medical Office Building, Neurosciences Conference Room, at 12200 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News (on the Riverside Regional Medical Center Campus).


Next meeting: Wednesday, May 27, 2015 - TAF: While there is no cure for Parkinson's disease yet, treatments can help control the symptoms and maintain quality of life. A valuable resource for people with Parkinson's, their families and caregivers

Due to unforeseen scheduling circumstances within the neurology group, April's meeting of the Peninsula Parkinson's Support Group is canceled. The next meeting will be on our regular date, May 27 at 5:30 p.m.

Be sure to join us in May and come together with people who understand the challenges of managing PD as a patient, a family member or a caregiver. Remember that something you know or some coping strategy you use may make a difference in someone else's life. And something they're doing may offer new ideas and a different approach for you.

The May meeting is an opportunity to spend some productive time with people who understand firsthand what you're experiencing.

The MS Support Group is your chance to have a voice about your life with MS in a setting where you can feel safe, confident and understood. It's an opportunity to share your story, with all its achievements, challenges, hopes and frustrations. Along with exchanging information with people who live some of your experiences first-hand, the support group serves as a guide to services and resources and an update on what's new in treatment and research.

The First Steps Newsletter is 10 months of very helpful information that will guide you through pregnancy and childbirth with tips, thoughts and reminders that this is one of life's most incredible journeys.
