That's A Fact: Almost two-thirds of American seniors living with Alzheimer's are women. Dr. Evans will discuss:

"Alzheimer's Overview: What You Should Know about Research, Risk and Treatment."


Riverside Medical Group's free lecture series is serving up valuable health information in the food court at the Patrick Henry Mall, on the last Wednesday of each month. And the April 30th The Doctor Is In is no exception. Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about a condition that affects an estimated 5.2 million Americans in 2014 - two-thirds of them women - from board-certified Family Medicine and Geriatric Medicine Specialist Paul E. Evans, MD. In this lecture, Dr. Evans will discuss topics that include:
  • Alzheimer's disease and related dementias - separating myths from facts
  • Can Alzheimer be prevented or can the progression be slowed down?
  • The difference between Alzheimer's disease and age-related memory loss
  • When you should see a doctor
  • The search for answers: brain imaging and other research advancements

The Doctor Is In at the Patrick Henry Mall will continue on Wednesday, April 30th with Dr. Paul Evans talking on Alzheimer's Disease. The talks at the mall continue on their regularly scheduled day and time - the last Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m.

The Doctor Is In at Riverside Medical Office Building in Newport News

The Doctor Is In adds a new Focus on Women Series in Newport News. These talks will be on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Medical Office Building, Neurosciences Conference Room, at 12200 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News (on the Riverside Regional Medical Center Campus).

Whether you have recently received a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, have been living with it for a short time or have been managing the disease for many years your Peninsula Parkinson's Support Group offers strategies on how to deal with challenges, enhance your health and wellness and maintain your quality of life to the highest degree possible. You have the opportunity to see how your experience, while unique to your particular situation, is part of a larger world of similar circumstances and people. Simply put, you realize that you are not alone.

April's meeting will feature Julie Scott and the Riverside Rehab Services Team talking on "Improving Your Quality of Life with Parkinson's: Exercise and Mobility Tips."

The world of assistive technology (AT) includes every tool you can imagine-from simple gadgets for home and office, to fancy electronic gizmos and complex computer systems, to mobility aids and accessible vans. Support and learning for people with MS, caregivers and families

Clare Lorio, from the Central and Eastern Virginia chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, will be attending our February meeting to talk about teams for the MS Walk on Saturday, April 5, starting in Newport News Park.

The MS Support Group is your chance to have a voice about your life with MS in a setting where you can feel safe, confident and understood. It's an opportunity to share your story, with all its achievements, challenges, hopes and frustrations, while you also experience new coping strategies and learn about the latest in research and treatment.
